A 35-year-old driver, Daniel Mark, was on Wednesday arraigned by the police for allegedly defiling a neigbour’s daughter.
The defendant is facing a two-count charge of act of gross indecency and assault in a Daura Road Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kaduna.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Baba, told the court that the defendant, a resident of Nasarawa Ward, Kaduna lured the complainant’s 4-year-old daughter into his room on Feb. 18 and had canal knowledge of her.
Baba added that the matter was reported at the Kakuri police station on Feb. 28 by the defendant’s neighbour, one Maryam Umar.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant had threatened to kill the victim if she told anyone about the incident.
He added that during police investigation the defendant confessed to have committed the crime.
The offence contravened Sections 260 and 240 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law of 2017.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Zainab Mohammed, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must live within the jurisdiction of the court and submit two recent passport photographs.
Mohammed also ordered that the sureties must present evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government and adjourned hearing until March 14.
