Anger they say, is another sort of poison that can destroy the sweet memories of an intimate relationship. That was the case in a recent tragic incident that shook the occupants and neighbours of No.45 Azubuike Street by Uratta /Express, Aba, Abia State.
The ugly drama started last weekend, when a man allegedly set his wife ablaze for daring to seek the advice of a third party concerning their marital affairs.
The culprit, Ndubuisi Okafor, later handed himself over to the police after the deed was done.
Dailypost gathered from neighbours and close sources that Ndubuisi, a native of Amawbia, Awka in Anambra State, had been at constant logger head with his deceased wife.
The neighbours also claimed to have heard Ndubuisi on severally occasions accusing his wife of being too religious which he said was preventing him from making good money.
Another source claimed that the easily provoked man had in the past destroyed the wife’s Bible.
However, Chinyere’s journey to her grave started two days to the incident when she complained to her husband that she was sick and needed money to visit a pharmacy, but was met with stiff refusal.
Her deteriorating health condition and her husband’s lackadaisical attitude prompted the Abia state mother of three to call her sister-in-law on phone to complain about it and other related issues. It was learnt that step she took obviously did not go down well with her husband.
Surprisingly and miraculously as it appeared, Okafor, according to the source, was touched by his wife’s deteriorating health and gave her the required money for the drugs before embarking on a business trip to PortHarcourt.
Unfortunately, on his return the next day, he became infuriated when he found out that his wife had already called his sister about the money issues, thus he confronted his better-half.
It seemed all her explanations fell on his deaf ears as Okafor allegedly pounced on her.
As if the beating was not enough, the visibly angry man forced her to drink some litres of fuel, poured the rest on her, and pushed her into a container and set her on fire.
The cry of the dying woman attracted neighbours to their apartment but their rescue came in late as she had already been consumed by the inferno.
The woman who was rushed to a nearby hospital was referred to Living Word Mission Hospital due to the first degree injury she sustained from where she was later referred UNTH, Enugu.
Sadly, she gave up the ghost on their way to UNTH. When Okafor learnt that the wife had died, he reported himself to the Timber Police Station where he made a statement claiming that it was his wife that set herself ablaze.
At the moment, the family members of the deceased are seriously alleging that the man used their sister for ritual.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Nkechi Nwogu, Chinyere’s elder sister said, “before the incident, Okafor had severally told my sister he needed money at all costs and that the wife had been the stumbling block, and he even destroyed her Bible. Presently, we don’t know where the body of my sister is as mortuary attendants are finding it very difficult to manage the corpse due to its bad state.
