An aged man, Chief Raymond Nyong who was on a motorcycle along Atu Street by Murray Road in Calabar South local government area of Cross River at about 8am on Saturday was knocked down by an unidentified escort vehicle in Calabar.
An eyewitness who simply gave his name as Peter Obi said that the vehicle hit the victim behind and sped off, “The vehicle is government car with amber light on top,”
“The car is portable but its plate number was covered with black polythene. It drove dangerously this morning (Saturday). When some passersby tried to chase the vehicle, the driver put on the siren and sped off,” he stated.
But the family member who pleaded anonymity told DAILY POST that the sad incident occurred this morning when the victim went to buy fuel to power generator, explaining that Nyong was a father of eight, and was also responsible for the six children left behind by his late brother who died three years ago.
“He left his house early in the morning riding on his motorcycle to his aunt’s shop in Bogobiri when he was allegedly killed by the suspected government vehicle this morning.
The victim until his death was a popular community leader.
The Commissioner of police, Hafiz Inuwa Mohammed, said he was yet to be briefed about the incident but that the police will launch investigation and the culprits will be arrested.
