Man abducts his friend’s 5-year-old son to sell in Abuja

A 42-year-old farmer accused of child trafficking was paraded on Wednesday by the Benue state Police Command.

The suspect, identified as Unogwu Agbese, was arrested after he abducted his friend’s five-year-old son, to sell off in Abuja.

Parading the suspect in Makurdi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Moses Yamu said: “The father of the abducted five-year-old, Emmanuel Edeh at Apa-Agila reported the case to the police.

“He had reported that his son was, last week, abducted by his friend from the village and taken to Abuja without his parents’ consent.

“However, he ran out of luck and was arrested and the child recovered from him unhurt.”

After much interrogation, Unogwu confessed that he abducted his friend’s son to sell but returned the boy to his parents after he could not find a buyer.

He said: “The boy is my friend’s son. I actually took him to Abuja to sell him, but I couldn’t find any buyer or anyone that could connect me to a buyer. So I brought him back to the village and his parents arrested me.”

Also, a 41-year-old man, Raphael Igye, who claimed to be a pastor, was arrested for alleged human trafficking.
