Governor Yero
The ancient city of Zaria in Kaduna on Saturday stood still for the campaign train of Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero.
Yero, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, held his final rally ahead of the April 11 Governorship and State Assembly polls.
Governor Yero hails from Zaria.
Thousands of supporters lined the streets of the city to welcome Governor Yero and his entourage.
The famous traditional horse riding was also part of the colourful reception ceremony accorded Governor Yero by the people of Zaria during the campaign tour.
A distance of less than 5kms turned into a journey of sort as the convoy moved through due to an overwhelming crowd.
Yero, in a brief speech, from his vehicle roof top thanked the people of Kaduna for the immense support towards his administration, assuring them of continuous development once re-elected.
His words: “I am overwhelmed by this turn out indeed.”
“I appreciate all the love and support I have been receiving from the entire people of Kaduna.
“Together we can do more, I won’t let you down by the grace of Almighty God,” Yero said.
Yero had earlier in the week said the postponement of the February polls was in the best interest of Nigerians and the country.
The governor who spoke through his Director of Media, Ahmad Maiyaki in Kaduna, stated that the postponement would enable more eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to vote for the candidates of their choice.
He stated voting in an election as the right of all Nigerians of voting age as provided for in the 1999 Constitution.
“Though there is remarkable achievement in the collection of PVCs in Kaduna State, it cannot be 100 per cent,” Yero said.
According to him, the postponement will meet the Electoral Act which stipulates that there should be election at least 30 days before May 29.
