Information Minister, Mr. Labaran Maku, has asked widows of the police officers killed in Nasarawa State weeks ago, to take solace in God.
He said this in Lafia, during a visit to the widows at the State Police Command Headquarters.
Mr. Maku, who was accompanied by his wife, Mary, noted that the demise of their spouses was no doubt, painful, urging them to seek comfort in God who will strengthen them to take care of their children.
The Minister donated N2 million to the widows, with a promise to mobilise others to also assist them.
“This is the beginning, we will continue to relate to them; we will also open a book for those who are our friends in the system to continue to support them. We will never forget these people because their husbands died in active duty for the people of Nigeria”, he said.
In her remarks, Mrs. Mary Maku said they came to encourage the women. She stated that “We are all bitter about what has happened. What have we to say than to say thank you Jesus because the Bible says, it mustn’t be good before you say thank you. Whichever way the Lord has done, we give Him all the glory.”
The Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, Umar Shehu, thanked the Minister for the kind gesture. He said more assistance from well-meaning Nigerians will be appreciated.
