Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abubakar Gada Mohammed, has said that the former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku is working for the re-election of Governor Tanko Al-Makura.
He said Maku’s decision to work for the APC was his way of registering his grievances against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for alleged irregularities in the December 8 primaries of the party where he came second to the eventual winner, Alhaji Yusuf Agabi.
Mohammed, Special Adviser to Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura on Food Security, said Maku was well aware that he did not stand a chance against the APC and the PDP but had decided to graciously work for Al-Makura to form the next government.
“Maku knows that the APC is taking over the leadership of this country at all levels and has decided to come home and be part of that inevitable change, so instead of chiding him, we must begin to appreciate his political ingenuity,” he said.
According to him, Maku who is currently mobilizing support for Al-Makura’s victory will be part of the next administration of the APC in the state.
He called on PDP members not to villify him for deciding to put Nasarawa first by working for Al-Makura.
It would be recalled that the romance between Maku and Al-Makura was widely reported months ago to which neither of the parties has either affirmed or denied.
Reacting, the media aide to the former minister, Mr. Bako Ajen, said such insinuation was preposterous because Maku is an ideologically driven person.
“His defection is to turn around the fortunes of the people of the state. If they (APC) want him its good because of his credibility. Maku’s passion is the common man and he does not share the ideology of the All Progressives Congress,” Ajen stated.
