Today’s Federal Executive Council meeting may be the last for five ministers in the Presdient Jonathan’s cabinet as they are expected to formally resign their appointment to pursue their political ambitions in their various states.
The Ministers include Chief Emeka Nwogu, Labour, Samuel Ortom, Trade, Industry and Investment {state}, Kabir Taminu Turaki, Special Duties, Musiliu Obanikoro, Defence {State}, Nyesom Wike, Education {State} and Labaran Maku, Information. DailyPost has it on good record that the Ministers are exiting Jonathan’s cabinet due to their various political ambitions.
While Maku intends to replace Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nassarawa State, both Obanikoro and Nyesom Wike have not been hiding their interest in becoming the chief executive officers of Lagos and Rivers States respectfully.
Labour Minister, Chief Emeka Wogu, will equally be trying his luck to succeed Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State, while Samuel Ortom is workingt to succeed Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State.
Dailypost recalls that President Jonathan has given members of his cabinet who are interested in contesting the forthcoming elections up till 20th of October to resign their appointment.
Mr. Labaran Maku, the Minister of Information had set the tone for his departure from the cabinet when he attended a thanksgiving service in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
He asked the congregation to thank God for him and pray for the journey ahead; “Just thank God for me; just pray for me because by next week, October 20th, anyone in the cabinet that wants to contest election must step down because the time has come for us to do that. It is time to make my interest known; by the grace of God, I will sacrifice the comfort of a Minister, to go into the wilderness.
“I want to sacrifice the comfort of the high office that I am in now to join my people in the wilderness in Nasarawa State to fight for peace and justice in this state”, Maku said.
