The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris has urged the Federal Government to make the recruitment of 10, 000 police personnel a yearly exercise.
Speaking in Kaduna, Idris explained that conducting the exercise annually will enable the country meet the minimum United Nations stipulation of one policeman to 400 persons.
The police boss noted that the current strength of Police personnel runs short of United Nations’ recommendations of a Police force.
He assured the people of the state that the Nigeria Police will continue to discharge its statutory responsibilities in accordance with the rule of law and international best practices.
Commending President Muhammadu Buhari for the current recruitment drive in the country, Idris said conducting the exercise on a yearly basis will augment the shortfall arising from incidence of retirement and death.
Recall that the Senate had in October called for a suspension of the process for the recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the Nigeria Police Force, due to irregularities.
