Maitama Sule is dead

Former Nigeria Permanent Representative to the United Nation, UN, Alhaji Maitama Sule is dead.

Sule, a former Minister of Petroleum took ill over the weekend and was flown to Cairo, Egypt where he eventually gave up the ghost last night.

The elder statesman’s death was confirmed in a terse statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information in Kano State, Mallam Mohammed Garba.

According to Garba, Sule’s body on arrival from Cairo, would lie in state for some hours at the Emir’s palace, Mallam Mohammadu Sanusi 11, to enable prominent Nigerians to mourn him before he would be laid to rest.

The late Danmasanin Kano’s funeral prayer will be conducted Tuesday at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, by 4:00pm.

Against this backdrop, the state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has declared Tuesday a work – free day in the state to mourn the late elder statesman.

The statement reads, ” The death has occurred today (Monday) of Alhaji (Dr.) Yusuf Maitama Sule, Dan Masanin Kano.

“Dr. Yusuf Maitama Sule died at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he was receiving treatment for an illness.”
