Following the increased rate of kidnapping in Kaduna State, the State House of Assembly is set to enact a law that will be punishable by death to any kidnapper whose victim dies in his/her custody.
The House on Wednesday assured the people of the state that kidnapping law will be followed to ensure that those behind the kidnapping and killing of the Agom Adara, Dr. Maidawa Galadima face the punishment of their action, which is death.
The Deputy Speaker, Deacon Nuhu Goroh Shadalafiya, representing the Speaker Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, disclosed this when he led the lawmakers for a condolence visit to the Adara chiefdom.
According to him, with the support of the present Speaker of the House and the entire members, the state’s previous kidnapping law has been improved upon to now read that anybody that kidnaps a person and that person dies in the process, he/she must die also.
He explained that the assembly would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that those involved if caught, receive the same fate as the paramount ruler they killed.
The Deputy Speaker described the late chief as a God-fearing and peace maker said his death affected them deeply as an Assembly because he was a father to all who had the people, the state and country as a whole at heart.
He prayed that the sacrifices that the chief made, which resulted to his death will bring lasting peace in Adara chiefdom, the state, and the country at large.
He assured the Adara council of the chiefdom that the Assembly was committed to be fully involved in the burial of the traditional leader once a date is announced, while calling on the people in the state to pray for the peace of the state.
Responding, the Deputy Chief of Adara chiefdom, Mr. Bawa Magaji, appreciated the lawmakers for the condolence visit which he described as encouraging.
He noted that for President Buhari to come down to Kaduna State, it showed that the entire country is with them in the moment of their mourning.
