Magu not corrupt, confirm him now – Etiebet tells Senate

A former Minister of Petroleum, Chief Don Etiebet, has called on the National Assembly to confirm the appointment of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier in the week sought for reconsideration of acting EFCC boss, Mr. Ibrahim Mustapha Magu. He equally cleared the Secretary to the government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir Lawal of any wrong doing.

In the letters sent to the Senate and which was read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Buhari said he had thoroughly investigated those allegations as contained in the DSS report against Magu and Secretary to the government of the Federation, Engr Babachir Lawal.

“Distinguished Senators, in view of my conviction, there is need to maintain momentum of anti-graft fight, while I urge the Senate to reconsider Ibrahim Magu as substantive EFCC Chairman”, President Buhari said.

However, the senate has reportedly outlined three conditions for Ibrahim Magu to be confirmed as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reacting to the development, Etiebet said since the office of the Attorney General of the Federation had cleared Magu of wrongdoings, the Senate should dutifully confirm him to continue with his good works.

“The office of the AGF has investigated the allegations levelled against Magu by the Department of State Services, DSS, and he has been exonorated of any wrong doing.

“President Buhari has accepted the findings of the AGF and accordingly re-submitted Magu’s name to the Senate for confirmation as the Chairman of the EFCC.

“I believe President Buhari should always be commended for following due process in doing his things as in this case no matter whose ox is gored,” he told Vanguard.
