Madumere to be sworn in as Imo Deputy Governor on Saturday

Having been cleared by the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Eze Madumere is to be sworn in as the new Deputy Governor of the state on Saturday.

Until his present nomination, Madumere is the Chief of Staff to Governor Rochas Okorocha of the State.

It would be recalled that the embattled former Deputy Governor of Imo state, Mr. Jude Agbaso was finally impeached on Thursday after his fruitless battle to remain in office.

His removal from office occurred shortly after an Owerri High Court earlier in the day struck out his suit seeking to stop the impeachment process.

It was gathered that although the state Assembly had earlier adjourned sitting to April 9, it made a U-turn to commence the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor at 5 pm on Thursday, when they learnt of his non-appearance at the 7-man probe panel.

The motion for his impeachment, which was moved by the Majority Leader, Adaku Ihuoma, representing Ahiazu Mbaise Constituency and seconded by Pat Ekeji, the Minority Leader representing Aboh Mbaise was endorsed by 23 out of the 27 members of the House.

Consequently, the Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, ruled in favour of the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor.

Following his removal, Madumere was nominated and immediately cleared by the state Assembly yesterday to take over as the new Deputy Governor of the state.

His nomination was contained in a letter by Governor Rochas Okorocha to the House where he nominated his chief of staff as a suitable replacement for the former Deputy Governor.

Agbaso has been accused of demanding and receiving bribe amounting to N458 million from a firm, JPROS International Ltd., which was awarded a construction contract by the Imo State Government. He continues to deny the allegation, and putting up a strong fight against every impeachment move by the state Assembly.
