Karim Benzema has insisted there was no chance of him leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal this summer.
The France international was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates, as Arsene Wenger tried to bring in a world-class finisher, but he ended up staying at the Bernabeu.
Benzema says he is always amused by the rumours, as he is at the best club in the world.
When asked during an interview with Journal du Dimanche if he had ever come close to swapping Madrid for Arsenal, he replied: “Never. Like every summer, I laugh about it with my brother and my friends. We wait for the media to come out with these rumours.
“In my opinion, I think that Real and Barca are the pinnacle in football. Why I would leave? I’m a starter for the best club in the world. I am happy; it’s that simple.”
