The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has expressed shock and sadness over the “wanton destruction of lives and cattle going on in Gembu-mambila area in Sardauna Local Government Taraba State.”
Several persons were said to have been killed and about over 100 houses razed as at Monday this week.
Reacting on Wednesday, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, MACBAN National Secretary, said it was tragic that as at last count, over 100 Fulanis have been assumed killed, several injured, others missing and over 15,000 cattle either killed, maimed or rustled.
He noted that ”It is equally unfortunate to observe the attitude of Taraba State Government in the face of this genocide.
”MACBAN condemns in strong terms this somewhat premeditated genocide and the silence or inaction on the part of the Taraba State Government.
”We are calling on the relevant national security agencies to step up action in fortifying the area and ensure normalcy is returned.
”Itt is our firm belief that only a national judiciary commission of inquiry can unveil the true nature, motivation and magnitude of these barbaric acts of carnage and destruction.
”The Federal Government should as a matter urgency and justice institute one. MACBAN and indeed the affected Fulanis will not accept any window dressing approach by the Taraba State Government in managing the crisis.”
The MACBAN scribe further appealedto relief agencies to access distressed areas with the view of providing relief materials to the affected people.
