There is currently low turnout of voters in the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly’s elections in Benue State.

In most of the polling centres visited by DAILY POST, Saturday morning, there was apathy of voters who may have decided to boycott the poll because of security issues.

Voters were believed to have stayed away due to threats by a party to unsettle the state if the election was not in its candidate’s favour.

At Ifikeri polling unit in Owukpa, out of the over 800 registered voters, only about 15 were accredited to vote at 1 pm when our correspondent visited, while some INEC ad-hoc staff were seen idling away in some remote polling units in the outskirts of the town.

In Ugbokolo, our reporter observed that some youths in the area were seen playing football in a primary school in Efoyo with few voters at the polling booths.

Only some major spots witnessed large turnout in Otukpo, the headquarters of Idoma land.

Our correspondent also gathered that accreditation has ended in some polling units in Makurdi, the state capital just as INEC official are battling with the card reader in Gboko, Apa and Okpokwu.

A resident of Ugbokolo who spoke on the condition of anonymity said none of the candidates deserves his vote. According to him: “I can’t continue to vote for some people to rule over us in Benue. I must confess, none of the candidates deserves my vote.
