Osogbo, the state capital of Osun State on Tuesday came alive, as couples set out to celebrate Valentine, even as economic recession bites harder, Daily Post reports.
The ancient town was painted with red and white attires, while torrents of eateries and restaurants in the metropolis were getting ready to make brisk business.
At the popular eatery along Gbongan Road, attendants were seen putting finishing touches on the facilities at the place, with slim patronage.
A young spouse at the eatery, Mr Samson Alade said the season remained an opportunity to give more credence to the sanctity of love and affection, as the only factor that builds integration and cohesion.
Alade explained that the present economic predicament in the state and Nigeria at large would have an adverse effect in the degree of celebration, saying the economic hardship stills bites harder.
“By this time in the year 2015, this place has almost full to its brim, what is happening now is indeed a confirmation of the present economic hardship, the situation is not in anyway fearing better.
” Of course, we still have a cause to celebrate our loved ones, it is natural for every human, the celebration solidifies relationships,” he said.
In the same vein, Ms Jumoke Adeoti told DAILY POST that despite the mood of the celebration, economic constraints in the land make the celebration more monotonous, adding that very few couples would celebrate the season of love.
“You can see for yourself how deserted the town looks, something is really missing, and that is money, in as much as we wish to celebrate, the financial limitation makes it impossible.”
Meanwhile, the Manager at a famous restaurant, located around Dada Estate has charged the Federal Government to address the nagging economic hardship as a matter of exigency, describing the business atmosphere in the town as not favourable.
He maintained that the dull business environment on a special day like Valentine exposes the acute economic distress in the state.
DAILY POST reports that Valentine Day remains one of the most celebrated festival in the world, as the mood cut across colour and religious inclinations.
