A lorry driver today rammed into a commercial motorcycle operator identified as Akpojotor Russia and an unidentified woman believed to be a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God,RCCG along Eku-Kokori road in Agbon Kingdom, Ethiope East Local Government Area,Delta State, leaving both of them dead, DAILY POST is reporting.
The driver of the lorry who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol quickly absconded from the scene of the incident for fear of being lynched by angry mob and sympathizers in the area.
DAILY POST gathered that the driver of the lorry with Reg. No. XB 700 UGH who was navigating towards the Eku direction on a high speed, suddenly lost control, rammed into into the two and killing them on the spot.
An eyewitness who craved anonymity stated that, “the woman sustained severe injuries which led to her death.”
According to the eyewitness, “the victims were coming from Eku direction when suddenly the lorry on high speed ran into them and what we saw were dead bodies.”
Contacted, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Isiokolo Divisional Police Headquarters, CSP Godspower Origho confirmed the incident, calling on drunk drivers not to drive when they are drunk, stressing that motorists, especially commercial motorcyclists should be careful so as to avoid accidents on the roads.
The remains of the victims have been deposited at the Erhoike Cottage Hospital Morgue by the police.
