A Police Inspector was shot dead in Ganye, southern part of Adamawa State on Tuesday, by a local vigilante group for refusing to stop at a checkpoint, while riding on his motorcycle.
DAILY POST recalls that last week, the military had placed a ban on commercial motorcycle operators as part of efforts to check insurgency in the state. The military announced that the ban would take effect from Monday, August 17.
According to an eye-witness, Semsire Ayuba, , “The deceased was not wearing his uniform at the time of the incident. He failed to stop when the vigilante group asked him to do so.
“It was after he refused to stop that, one of them shot him,” the witness added.
Police spokesman, Othman Abubakar, said he did not have details of the attack, but confirmed receiving information about the incident.
