Liverpool beat Manchester United to Firmino deal

Liverpool have announced the signing of Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim, subject to the completion of a medical.

The 23-year-old is expected to cost the Anfield club around £28 million, becoming their second-highest record signing to Andy Carroll, who the Reds paid £35 million for in 2011.

Firmino, who is currently on Copa America duty with Brazil, has already agreed a long-term deal with Liverpool and will complete the move when Copa ends.

The forward made 151 appearances in league and cup for the German club, netting 47 goals, after joining them from Figueirense in December 2010.

Brendan Rodgers has already secured moves for Danny Ings, James Milner, Joe Gomez and Adam Bogdan.
