Lille coach defends Enyeama after red card

Coach of Lille, Herve Renard, has refused to blame Vincent Enyeama, after the goalkeeper was sent off in their Ligue 1 clash against Rennes.

The Super Eagles captain was sent off, for what referee Stephane Jochem deemed as a clear foul on Giovanni Sio, in a game that ended 1-1.

Renard insisted that replays of the incident, proves that it was neither a penalty or a red card.

“You watch the images on the penalty and expulsion and it didn’t look like a penalty,” former Cote d’Ivoire coach Renard told L’Equipe.

“However, different people will have their own analysis of the situation.

“I am proud of what we produced, proud of what my boys have done since the beginning of the season. We have always had that defensive solidity, but sometimes a very average game offensively.

“Everybody watching the game will have their own analysis. In the game, you can see what we wanted to implement.

“Having seven points after six days, given the opponents we have played, it is encouraging although this is not enough. I don’t want to sound like a fanatic, but I really trust this group, my team. We were not rewarded for our hard work but it will come.”

Enyeama will now miss matches against FC Nantes, Stade de Reims and Montpellier Hérault SC.
