Light Family Empowerment Foundation, a non-governmental organization has called for donation for the victims of the Benue flood disaster.
DAILY POST reports that over 100,000 persons have been rendered homeless following a 72-hour torrential rainfall in Makurdi, Benue State capital, accompanied by heavy flood.
LFEF is therefore calling on well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the victims of the disaster.
According to the foundation, before the unfortunate incident, “Makurdi was a bustling city in the North-Eastern Nigeria with a beautiful place. Lush green vegetation suitable for agriculture. The home if the Tiv, Idoma Igede and Etulo tribes. They lived an easy-going and peaceful live till it all changed.
“72 Hours of rain was all it took to completely change the lives of the residents of Makurdi and its environs. Men, Women and Children who hitherto just went about their lives without many worries all have their entire lives changed forever.
“Persistent rains caused the great River Benue to overflow its banks and caused flooding at a scale that Nigeria has never seen. 3000+ homes in 24 Communities submerged in flood-water and over 100,000 people had to evacuate the City to make-shift shelters put up by the Government of Benue in conjunction with FEMA and several NGOs. Just like that 100,000 people became internally displaced (IDPs) with no hope for a better days ahead.
“The Government through its agencies is doing its best to salvage the situation and provide succor to the victims but their best is grossly inadequate. The situation is dire right now as the needs of the people especially women and children are hardly being met. There is need for food, water, beds, Blankets and Medical supplies that are currently in short supply.
“The Light Family Empowerment Foundation led by Bukky Shonibare is seeking the help of all Nigerians home and abroad to help the Victims of Makurdi floods and able supported by donate-ng.”
The foundation urged those who are willing to raise fund for the homeless victims to click on the link below for donation.
