LG chairman seeks private sector partnership to boost youth development in Anambra

Chairman of Anaocha Local Governemnt Area of Anambra State, Mr. Ikeobi Ejiofor, has called on private sector to key into the youth development programme of the council.

Ejiofor made the call in an interview with the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday.

“We invested a lot in it but I appreciate the dividends of that competition because the youth must be given their own fair share of whatever you have in democracy, the future of the country, the future of the local government lies on the youth.

“And as a youth, I have a wonderful platform and good strategies, programme that will enhance the development of the youth in Anaocha and sports is one of it, hopefully by April, we will be talking about the lawn tennis tournament in Anaocha.”

The council boss, who was elated with the success of the maiden Anaocha cup which ended in December, contended that the youths remained the hope and future of any society.

He said sports and skills acquisition were major areas his administration wished to explore in its bid to develop the youth in the area, saying that there was need for the involvement of all so as to ensure the success of the vision.

Ejiofor, however, appreciated the gesture of the Tonimas and Chelsea Groups who partnered the council in the N7.6 million football tournament, which lasted three months.

He said the groups had contributed to the future of Anaocha youths.

“Let me at this point in time to call on the good people of Anaocha , the stakeholders, the big philanthropists and our good people to support all these we are doing for the youth because they are future of every society, so whatever we invest in the youth, I don’t think it would be a lost venture, that is why are calling on them to please support our programmes.”

Ejiofor further said that three skill acquisition centres were presently being equipped by the council as part of its intervention in the informal education subsector.

NAN reports that the winners in the male category of the football championship were Aguluzigbo, Nri and Obeledu with cash prizes of N1, 000,000, N500, 000 and N300, 000, respectively.
