Contrary to the claim by the promoters of Lekki Gardens, MessrsLekki Worldwide Estate Limited, the Great Nigeria Insurance, GNI, on Monday denied insuring the collapsed five-storey building in Lekki, Lagos State, which killed about 35 persons.

The Manager of MessrsLekki Worldwide Estate Limited, Mr. Steve Agbiboa, at the weekend, had reportedly said the building was insured by GNI, following enquiries on whether or not the building was insured as required by law, The Nation reports.

But the GNI Managing Director, Mrs. Cecillia Osipitan, while debunking the claim, said the firm did not insure the building and does not know anything about it.

“I do not know the company, MessrsLekki Worldwide Estate Limited, promoters of Lekki Gardens and it was not insured by GNI,” she claimed.

Meanwhile, following the denial of GNI, reports allege that the firm has violated the Insurance Act 2003 and the Lagos State government law on Insurance of Buildings under construction.
