The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reacted to a newspaper publication that some people are still trapped under the rubbles of the Lekki Gardens’ building that collapsed last Tuesday, more than three days after the rescue operation ended.
LASEMA General Manager, Mr. Michael Akindele, told DAILY POST on Sunday that the Agency in company of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the representative of the Nigeria Police on Wednesday, 9th of March 2016 declared the operation completed at about 7.20 p.m after thorough search by all the emergency responders and concluded that nobody – dead or alive – was buried under the rubbles.
He said that, “following the newspaper publication, the emergency response team of the Agency visited the site on Sunday at about 9.30 am to double check and reconfirm the earlier established fact that nobody is still trapped.”
According to him, the place has been sealed by the State Government, while the only security man on the site identified as Isaac Atete denied giving any one such information as claimed by the report.
Akindele, however, disclosed that the State Government and concerned agencies were presently carrying out further investigation on the matter and would come out with “detailed report.”
