RB Leipzig chief, Ralf Rangnick, has handed Liverpool a boost in their pursuit for Naby Keita. However, there is a catch.
Reds boss, Jurgen Klopp, has not achieved a breakthrough in his chase for the Guinea midfielder this summer, as the Bundesliga club are playing hardball.
But Rangnick has give Liverpool hopes that a deal could be struck for the 22-year-old next season.
Keita has the option to leave Leipzig at the end of the season, with a £48 million release clause in his deal, but is unlikely to leave before then.
“Next season it is so that Naby theoretically has the option to go,” Leipzig’s Director of Sport, Rangnick, is quoted as saying by German daily Bild .
“I’m assuming that he’s playing a strong season, even in the Champions League.
“And then there will be big clubs that are also interested in him. Therefore, it will probably be difficult to keep him.
“We always said, if players develop faster than our club, then it will also be that a player leaves us.
“[But] It’s important that Naby is still playing this season.”
