Hon. Benjamin Ikani Okolo representing Dekina/Bassa/Biraidu federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has expressed optimism that the legislative framework adopted by the House would set the stage for efficient legislative duties.
He, however, regretted that the crises in the House was avoidable in the first instance, following the mood of change, but stressed that what was important was to overcome it quickly and move on.
“It is natural, especially when there is a reason to jostle for offices, and we cannot say it is taken too far, but some of us came here with lots of promises expecting that after inauguration, we should swing into legislative businesses”, he maintained.
He praised Speaker Yakubu Dogara for all encompassing legislative framework, which he described as a well articulated document that borders on national issues and the review of budgetary procedure that affords members opportunity to address their constituency needs and address national development.
“The legislative framework has provided a road map that guides our activities to address the integrity of the nation and which will take care of all the facet of the country and we are hopeful that as we open up sectoral debates, we will address those issues that are foremost to the nation “, Okolo said.
He maintained that in the course of electioneering campaign, which made him to traverse the length and breadth of his federal constituency, he discovered that the people had been wallowing in untold hardship as there were no infrastructures at all.
“I come from a Federal constituency that is marginalised and during my campaign I realised that there is no infrastructure and the people were subjected to untold hardships”, he submitted.
