The Continuity Mandate Group (CMG), Kaduna Chapter, yesterday told the North to wait until 2019 before taking another shot at the presidency.

The group maintained that the region has had its fair share of power from 1960 till date and should stop talking about return of power for now.

A press statement signed by its coordinator, Benard Musa, lamented that there was nothing wrong constitutionally for any zone to demand for power, saying that the North and its people had no moral rights to demand for power at the centre.

“It is unfortunate that after many years of holding to power, the North has nothing tangible to show in the region, except poverty, high level of unemployment, illiteracy, violence and Boko Haram insurgency.

“We are asking the northerners and their leaders what they want to now use the power for if they get it again?

“If the presence of Boko Haram in the North is due to poor economic condition and deprivation, what hope do we have if we give power to the North in 2015”, he said.

The group further noted that “it will only be wise for Nigerians and other northerners to allow the South-South finish its tenure and go.”

It pointed out that the tension in the polity as well as security challenges in the country could only be doused if Jonathan is allowed to come back in 2015.

“It is against this background that we beg the North and other meaningful Nigerians to give Jonathan the last chance”, CMG added.
