Lay down your arms – Delta Monarch urges Niger Delta Militants

The Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom, HRM. S.P. Luke JP , Pere Kalanama VIII has urged militants and all aggrieved stakeholders in the Niger Delta Region of to lay down their arms and give the President muhammadu Buhari a chance to develop the region.

The Pere gave the advice while giving a remark at the conferment of chieftaincy titles/ yearly award of scholarships to indigent students of the Kingdom as part of activities marking his 19th Coronation Anniversary at his palace at Akugbene-Mein Kingdom in Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State.

While noting that there can be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancor and violence, the Pere also enjoined the militants to make Niger Delta a peaceful environment and for all.

The revered monarch also called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency pay special attention to the development needs of the Niger Delta region stressing, “I am sure the militants will all lay down their arms if there is aggressive development of the area.”

While lamenting that the only 15 meters access road into the Kingdom is in shamble, he also called on the Federal Government to increase the funding of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC to enable it complete the road for his people.

According to HRM, “ The road has been awarded through our Son, Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu , member representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency but because of lack of fund and that is why the project is still stalled but I pray that the Federal Government injects more funds to NDDC so that they can meet up their responsibilities of developing the Niger Delta Region.”

On behalf of his people, he pledged his unalloyed support for the President Muhammadu Buhari Federal Government just as he commended the Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa for appointing him as the “Deputy Chairman” of Delta State Traditional Rulers Council.

He also drummed support of all deltans for Governor Okowa to enable him achieve his SMART Agenda for the people of the State.
