At least 50 lawyers, Tuesday, at Otuocha, Anambra East Local Governmennt Area, Anambra state, protested alleged assault and detention of their colleague, Barr. Ivy Arinze, on the order of the Otuocha Police Area Commander. Mr Abdul A Osu (ACP).

Addressing journalists, the Chairman of Idemili Branch of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Barr. P. A. Asame, said that Arinze was assaulted and detained on the order of the Otuocha Police Area commander while he was calling for peaceful settlement of a case.

He said, “A lawyer who came to do his work at Otuocha Area Command was assaulted and detained on the order of Police Area Commander, Mr Abdul A. Osu.”

“This is least of what I expect and we can’t take it like this, we are proceeding to the court immediately. The lawyer was only asking parties for amicable settlement, that is all” he fumed.

Condemning the action of the Police Area Commander, Barr Path Agbata, said that it was unbecoming of a senior police officer like the Area Commander.

Efforts made to reach the Area commander proved abortive as police officers denied everyone entry into the compound housing the police station.
