A 46-year-old lawyer, Olagoke Akeusola, who allegedly defrauded one Tolulope Otenaike of N1million was on Thursday granted N500, 000 bail by an Ikeja Senior Magistrates’ Court, Lagos
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Y.R Pinheiro, also ordered Akeusola to produce two sureties in like sum as part of the bail condition.
Pinheiro adjourned the case till May 11 for mention.
The accused, who resides at Plot 24 Omole Layout, Ojodu, Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Mathew Akhaluode had told the court that the accused committed the offence at Omole Estate, Phase 1, Ojodu, Lagos on Dec. 15, 2015.
Akhaluode said that the accused, who was a caretaker of a property owned by Otenaike, collected the N1million from her tenants and converted the money to his personal use.
“Otenaike said that the accused was supposed to remit the money into her account, but instead he spent the money.
“The complainant said all efforts made by her to collect the money proved abortive.
“When Otenaike could not get her money, she reported the matter to the police and the accused was apprehended,” he said
Akhaluode said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 319 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
