The Presiding Bishop of Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Francis Wale Oke, today charged Nigerian legislators to serve Nigerians qualitatively, noting that every service to mankind is a service to God.
The cleric gave this charge at the 7th anniversary celebration of Christian Legislators Fellowship of the National Assembly.
The event was also used to welcome new members of the 8th Assembly.
Using Acts of Apostles Chapter 13:36 as his text, Oke stated that King David served conscientiously to the extent that those he governed gave testimony of him, imploring all legislators to see themselves as servants to the people. He pointed out that it was at that level they would be committed to the people.
“David did not just serve, but he satisfied his conscience in his service to the people and I want to tell all of you that your conscience is foremost in your service to the people”, the clergy said.
According to him: “Everyone will give account of what he does secretly or openly. Thus, legislators should be ready to give account of their stewardship to God”, he emphasised.
In his remark, Senator Barnabas Gemade, who took over from from late Senator Uche Chukwumerije as the fellowship’s President, welcomed new legislators into the fold and urged them to make out time despite their tight schedule to pray to God on behalf of the nation.
“I welcome all new legislators to the fellowship and I want to urge all of you to use your position for God’s intervention in this challenging times and particularly ask for wisdom to make good laws for the nation”, Gemade said.
Christian Legislators Fellowship is an Interdenominational fellowship comprising Senators, Members of the House of Representatives and other officials of National Assembly.
