Lawmakers’ defection: How APC-led government is suppressing Nigerians – GPN Chairman, Ek

The National leadership of the Green Party of Nigeria (GPN), has stated that the country, was no longer safe for the people, due to the penchant by the governing All Progressives Congress in suppressing dissenting voices.

The party, however, condemned the alleged security siege on the homes of the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu on Tuesday.

It described the action of the security agencies as an attempt to rape democracy and urged Nigerians to brace up for the worst from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government in the coming 2019 general elections.

Recall that, the Senate president, Bukola Saraki’s home, and that of his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu were on Tuesday, locked down by police officers and his convoy, preventing them from leaving their premises.

But, the force headquarters in Abuja, through its spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, denied the alleged police seige on the residences of the two principal officers of the national Assembly on Tuesday.

The National chairman of GPN, Chief Sam Eke, in a chat with DAILY POST on Wednesday afternoon said,”The invasion of Saraki and Ekweremadu’s homes does not speak well of democracy, because the rule of law was not followed”.

“And as people of herachy like that, if they can do that to them, nobody is safe in this country.

“So, it was an attempt to rape democracy in a broad daylight. That was resisted by the collective efforts of senators and federal house of Representatives members.

“And they so demonstrated it instantly by making the ruling party becoming minority party in the senate within a twinkle of an eye.

“This is a pointer to what every well meaning Nigerians should expect in 2019 general elections”.
