The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday mandated the education committees of both Oyo and Osun states Houses of Assembly to meet both the governing council and management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso over the increment of the institution’s fees for over 300 per cent.
The institution had last week in a circular obtained by DAILY POST announced that medical and nursing students of the institution are to pay N300,000 as tuition.
But, the House presided by its Speaker, Hon. Olagunju Ojo while expressing concern over the development at its plenary on Tuesday mandated the education committees of both Oyo and Osun houses of Assemblies, the two owner states to meet the governing council of the university and its management.
This was sequel to a matter of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Wumi Oladeji (Ogbomoso North) who described the increase in the school fees as astronomical, and called for its reduction.
Oladeji, while reacting warned of the consequences of the increment to include the tendency for students, especially the indigent, to drop out of school.
She added that such action can discourage others from seeking admission into higher education.
