LAUTECH: ASUU urges students to pray for reopening of school

Lecturers of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), have urged students to pray for reopening of the university, which has been on strike for over a year over non-payment of workers’ salaries and inadequate funds to run the institution.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, by the chairman of the university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of the Universities (ASUU), Biodun Olaniran.

“Really, I must say that hopes of resumption are bleak. The governing council has been trying its best but we have not received salaries because there is yet no funding. Only God can touch the heart of the owners,” Olaniran said.

“We need students to keep praying because we need prayers at this critical point. We really do. The fate of the students hangs on this,” he added.

LAUTECH’s vice-chancellor, Adeniyi Gbadegesin, also said on Thursday that only the governing council can order reopening of the university.

He added that the council is “working round the clock” to ensure that the institution was opened very soon.
