The Federal University, Lokoja on Saturday honoured the late Minister of State for Employment, Labour and Productivity, Chief James Enejo Ocholi (SAN) with Posthumous Doctorate Degree in Law (Honorary Causa).
The gesture according to the management of the institution, was not unconnected to the laudable commitments of the late Minister to the judicial system in Kogi State and Nigeria.
The Federal University which was established few years ago by the last administration held its maiden convocation ceremony in Lokoja where H.R.H. Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammed Abali Ibn Muhammed Idriss (CON), the Emir of Fika and Chairman, Yobe State Council of Chiefs, was installed as the First Chancellor of the University.
Speaking at the event, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State said his “administration would be committed to improving education in the state, by ensuring state owned institutions are positioned to train men and women who will contribute positively to development in the society”.
Speaking further, the Governor promised that “the Federal University, Lokoja would receive sustained partnership from the government of Kogi State towards improving education in the state”.
Highlight of the convocation was presentation of awards to the Best Graduating Student, Moses Eshovo Ojo, who has a First Class Degree in Physics with CGPA of 4.94.
It could be recalled that today marks exactly one year that late Barr. James Ocholi was screened as Minister by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and was asked to take a bow and leave.
He, however, took the final bow from this world in March this year after a fatal motor accident along Kaduna-Abuja road, where he met his death alongside his wife and first son barely 5 months into office as Honourable Minister.
