“Late Gen. Azazi will receive a befitting state burial on Saturday” – Gov. Dickson

Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson disclosed on Wednesday that the late Gen. Andrew Azazi would be given a befitting state burial on Saturday, 29 December, 2012 for his outstanding services to Balyesa state and Nigeria.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, in Yenegoa.

Gen. Azazi, the former National Security Adviser died alongside former Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa and four others in a Naval helicopter crash that occurred at Okoroba, Nembe Local Government Area of Balyesa state on December 15.

The statement reads in parts: “In view of the late General Azazi ‘s illustrious military career and his remarkable contributions to Bayelsa State and Nigeria as a whole, his remains will be laid to rest at the Ijaw National Heroes Park in Yenagoa, the State capital by noon.

“This is to clearly demonstrate our respect and high regard for General Andrew Azazi as a true hero of the Ijaw Nation.”

The statement added, “Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, says former National Security Adviser, late Andrew Owoye Azazi, will be given a befitting State Burial. This is in recognition of his enviable record of Service to the state and country.”

He noted that the funeral would begin with a service of songs on Friday, the 28th, at the Peace Park, Yenagoa.
