All is not well with the family of the late Human Right Activist, Bamidele Aturu, as his wife, Bimpe and his aged parents are now fighting over should be in control of the deceased’s property.
The parents of the Ogbagi-Akoko born late lawyer accused the widow of making an attempt to take over the property of their son without caring for their welfare.
The Parents, who invited DailyPost to their residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital, said they were worried about the death of their son, saying since the late lawyer was buried, they were yet to see the medical report of what led to his death.
Pa Aturu, a retired Police officer, who had been suffering from stroke since nine years ago, said he had been suffering since the death of his son, adding that he had not been able to buy his drugs because he had no money.
The 82 year-old man said they were aware that their son had a lot of houses and lands in Lagos, but they were only pleading with the wife to provide a means where their needs would be solved through the property left behind by their son.
But Aturu’s mother alleged that late Aturu’s wife’s attitude of taking over the whole property was giving them a great concern.
She said they had petitioned the Head of the Redeemed Church of Christ, Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Bimpe’s attitude, who is an assistant Pastor in the Church.
She said, “the last time my son visited us was on March 17, when he and his wife were on their way to Kogi and I discovered that he was near. I asked him what was really wrong with him but he only said that his Redeemed Church has been involved in a lot of fasting and prayer programme this year. But, I was not satisfied with my son’s reply. I called him in the night that he should confess to me if he is suffering from any ailment but my son only said ‘nothing mummy’.
“Since then, I have been worried, I still remember during the Babangida’s era when they were after my son; as a mother, I knew what I went through in order to give him safety through the help of God. I told my husband that I am worried about the recent loss of weight of our son, he only said we should continue to pray for him. He has been taking care of us, responsible for the treatment of his sick father. He even promised to give us a car by August.
“We heard our son’s death on radio; my husband is fond of listening to radio and he was the one who called me that he heard a news that our son is dead. I ran outside, but already, Bamidele’s colleagues were already outside and they calmed us. We don’t know what led to the death of our son. Up till now, we are yet to receive the medical report of our son’s death and the wife and our two grandchildren are yet to visit us.
“We only saw his friends during and after his burial. They consoled us and also gave us money. Part of the money given to us, I used it to buy a car for my husband because most of the time we want to take him to hospital, we always had accident.
“As at now, we have no money to buy my husband’s drugs again, because the wife has taken over the whole property, neglecting us. When we visited Lagos, we discovered that Bimpe’s family, including her mother, have occupied the whole house of our son. You can’t imagine- I and my sick husband slept in the car. We told her that we want to know the number of properties left behind by our son and that we were aware that his chamber is now functioning again.
“We have petitioned the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye about her attitude but we discovered that some people in the church had been preventing the petition from reaching Pastor Adeboye. We are hungry, Bimpe wants to take over all our son’s property and neglecting his aged parents. We want the President, Governors, the People of Ogbagi-Akoko to save us from our son’s wife.
But when contacted on phone, late Aturu’s wife only said she was not ready to speak with the press on the matter.
