The Kebbi State Government says it has adopted proactive measures against the outbreak of Lassa fever in the state.
Alhaji Kabiru Alhasan, the state Director of Public Health, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Brinin Kebbi on Sunday.
Alhassan said that drugs and medical services as well as establishment of emergency reform teams had been provided.
He added that health institutions had been placed on high alert to tackle outbreak and spread of the virus while enlightenment campaigns had been intensified.
The director said the enlightenment teams had been providing preventive measures against the disease.
He called on the people to remain alert especially reporting of suspected outbreak and symptoms of Lassa fever.
He warned households against poor display and disposal of food remnants as well as ensure hygienic kitchen and clean utensils.
“The disease had been spread by rats as a result of poor hygienic practices and it is relevant for residents to pay more attention to personal hygiene and environmental sanitation,” he said.
NAN reports that the disease has affected no fewer than 10 states and FCT since its outbreak in the country in November 2015.
