Cross River State commissioner of health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, has confirmed the death of one person who had Lassa fever in the state.
The confirmation follows a positive test result received from the Institute of Lassa Fever Research and Control, Irrua in Edo State.
The Commissioner made the announcement in a statement issued on Thursday.
She stated that the epidemiology team had begun contact-tracing for effective monitoring, as this is the first case of death from the disease reported in the state.
Dr. Asibong hile describing the incident as unfortunate, urged members of the public to increase their personal hygiene which is one of the most effective preventive measures.
The commissioner stated that personnel at primary healthcare centres across the state have been asked to watch out for signs and symptoms of Lassa fever in their patients and report any suspected case to the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency (CRSPHCDA).
