Large turnout at Edo PDP ward congresses

A large turnout of members characterised Saturday’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward congresses in Edo.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who monitored the exercise in Benin reports that party members were at the various wards as early as 8 a.m.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and officials designated to conduct the ward congresses were also on ground.

NAN also reports that there was no presence of security personnel at the wards visited.

The Chairman of Oredo Ward 9, Mr Solomon Enabulele, told newsmen that the election was decided by a general consensus and election in some positions.

Enabulele urged the party members to remain united, adding that it was only a united party that could win elections.

At Oredo Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 4, Ward 6 and Ward 8, the congresses were decided by a general consensus.

Mr Smart Osaghede, a chieftain of the party at Ward 8, said that “the ward congress was well organised and peaceful.

“I urge everybody to be calm because we need peace to get to the promised land,” Osaghede said.

The PDP local government and state congresses are scheduled for March 10 and March 14 respectively. (NAN)
