Lampard speaks on calling Mourinho before taking Chelsea job

Frank Lampard has insisted he did not call any of his former Chelsea managers before taking the job and has no plans to speak to any of them.

The 41-year-old was named Chelsea’s new head coach despite him having been a manager for just one season, at Derby County in the Championship.

As he discussed his inexperience with the media on Thursday, Lampard pointed to all the “fantastic managers” he has played under and learned from during his illustrious career.

They include the likes of Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Guus Hiddink and Rafa Benitez during his 13-year playing spell with the Blues.

“No I haven’t spoken to any of them (his former Chelsea managers) and as it stands I don’t plan to call them.

“As I mentioned before I try and take bits from them throughout my career and that’s how I’ve tried to become my own person.

“If I felt the need to pick up the phone there are many numbers I could call but as it stands no,” Lampard said.
