Lampard feels “lucky” to play with Pirlo

Former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder, Frank Lampard, says he is “lucky” to be in the same New York City team as Andrea Pirlo. The ex-England international, 37, was unveiled by New York on Tuesday, ahead of his Major League Soccer debut against Toronto on July 12.

He will be playing alongside Pirlo, who joined from Juventus this summer and David Villa who arrived earlier.

“David and Andrea are at the top of the list, I’m a lucky man to be in the same squad as them,” Lampard said.

“I’ve been watching all the games. I know every player and how they play. It will be a pleasure to play with them every day.

“I think Pirlo is the best at getting his ball to dip and dive off the free-kick. He can have the first one!”

Lampard agreed a move to New York last summer before signing a contract with partner club Manchester City and has spoken of his delight at finally joining up.

“I’m blessed to live in a great city like this and play my football here,” Lampard added.

“I drove the car in the city the other day – which was interesting. I’m a city boy. I’m delighted to be here. I love the sounds.” .
