A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bitrus Kaze, has described the Governor Simon Lalong-led APC administration in Plateau State as “uninspiring,” saying the governor’s support for the proposed grazing reserve policy of the federal government has further contributed to his unpopularity in the State.
Kaze in an exclusive chat with DAILYPOST in Jos said, “I have said this repeatedly that Governor Lalong did not emerge because of his popularity, he emerged because of the unpopularity of his co-contender.
“Don’t get me wrong, is not as if late Senator Gyang Pwajok was so unpopular, no; but the process that brought about his candidature was so unpopular.
“Everybody felt that the former Governor wanted to continue by proxy, that was the idea that was rejected”, he explained further.
Kaze who represented Jos South/Jos East constituency in the 6th and 7th assemblies, however said, “Lalong was the other alternative, is not as if he was popular, but unfortunately his government has not been inspiring at all.
He said, “You cannot run and sustain governance by propaganda or by mediocrity, which the Lalong led APC administration is doing.
“I even hear among the APC members, that they are in camps; well they were even in camps before they won election.
According to the former Lawmaker, what further contributed to the Governor’s unpopularity is, “his support for the grazing reserve bill, which is very strange to every ethnic minority, especially on the Plateau.
“We just cannot explain why a lawyer, former speaker, a prominent citizen of Plateau like Governor Simon Lalong would jump out of the blues and begin to talk in favour of the grazing reserve”, he stressed.
“This singular act has made him very unpopular, because that is not the wish of a Plateau man and not infact of any ethnic minority; especially in the North.
“Because the target of the grazing policy is territorial expansion and land grabbing in disguise; and it is a form of psychological or mental war against our own people and nobody is going to accept that,” he assured.
