Worried about incessant acts of violence and killings in the state, the Governor-elect of Plateau State, Mr. Simon Lalong, has said he will rely on the support of retired generals in the state to stop the trend.
Lalong stated this in Jos on Thursday when prominent retired military Generals from Langtang led a delegation of Tarok-natives, to visit him.
The Generals included Joshua Dogonyaro, Domkat Bali, Jeremiah Useni, John Shagaya, John Wuyep, John Timlong and Bennett Banfa.
The governor-elect promised to consult them on ways to stop the spate of clashes, especially between farmers and herdsmen in the state.
According to Lalong, if previous administrations in the state had taken advantage of the many retired security chiefs in the state, the state would not have suffered the kind of crises it had gone through over the past decades.
He said: “A wise leader would use them. If you don’t use them, you suffer. I’m privileged to have these people. We must be united so we can chase insecurity out of the state.”
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Gen Joshua Dogonyaro, called on Lalong to unite the various tribes and religious groups in the state in order to achieve a wide socioeconomic development in the state, expressing satisfaction with the All Progressives Congress candidate’s victory in the April 11 poll.
“For the first time in a long while, we will be having one of our own, someone from southern Plateau as governor. You have our total support. But you have all the people of Plateau State to govern,” he said.
