Plateau State government on Friday announced the appointment of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Plateau State University.
It also stated that the current Chancellor of the university, Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, retained his appointment.
A statement by the Director of Press Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, said the state government made the appointment to address myriad of challenges facing Plateau State University, Bokkos, with a view to repositioning the institution for effective educational training and research in line with international best practices.
Other members of the new Governing Council are Chief Samuel Mafuyai, Professor Rahila Gowon, Chief James Barry, Chief Musa Izam, Professor Seddi Maimako, Mr Zingfa Galam, National Universities Commission (representative) and the university’s Registrar, who will serve as Secretary to the council.
The state government also approved the immediate reinstatement of Professor D.D. Sheni as the Vice Chancellor of the university.
