Real Madrid on Friday confirmed that its vice-captain, Marcelo has a muscular injury and will be out of action for an indefinite period of time.
The Champions League holders stated this ahead of their La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Marcelo limped off in the second half of the Los Blancos’ 3-0 defeat to Sevilla on Wednesday in the La Liga fixture.
“Following the tests carried out today by the Real Madrid medical team, on our player Marcelo, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the soleus of his right leg,” a statement on Real Madrid’s official website reads.
“His recovery will continue to be assessed.”
Real Madrid do not have a natural left-back as back-up to Marcelo following Theo Hernandez’s loan exit to Real Sociedad, but it is possible Nacho Fernandez, who played right-back against Sevilla, could switch.
