Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has stated that Real Madrid dismissed Julen Lopetegui because he was not winning matches.
The Man City boss admitted that what happened to Lopetegui will happen to any manager who is not getting results.
Guardiola said he was still the manager of Man City just because he was winning matches, adding that he’ll be sacked once he stops getting good results from games.
Real Madrid confirmed Lopetegui’s departure on Monday evening and have replaced him with their Castilla coach, Santiago Solari on a temporary basis.
The Champions League holders had suffered five defeats in their last seven games under Lopetegui, while his final game in charge was the 5-1 loss to Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday.
“Football I know what it is, we still here because we win games, if we don’t win we will be sacked,” Guardiola told post match press conference after Man City’s 1-0 win over Tottenham on Monday night.
“I’m sorry for Julen because he’s a friend of mine. He’s an exceptional person.
“We played together at Barcelona and have an amazing relation. I want to call him in the next few days.
“It is what it is. It’s football, nobody escapes that. When you have bad results you will not continue in big, big places like Barcelona or Madrid.
‘You either win in or row or don’t have the chance to continue. But in football you’ll have another chance.
“Julen will have another chance to show his value again, like he did with Porto and the national team with Spain.
“I wish him all the best, of course.”
