Antoine Griezmann scored four minutes after Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener, to ensure that Atletico Madrid held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Real went into the clash four points adrift of their city rivals in second and could have closed the gap to one point with a victory.
Although the hosts dominated the first half, they failed to score, with Jan Oblak pulling off a fine save to deny Ronaldo. Marcelo also hit the bar.
Ronaldo did find the net after the break, but Griezmann capitalised on a loose ball to slam Atletico level moments later.
Barcelona remain top of LaLiga, after their 3-1 win over Leganes on Saturday.
