Barcelona have identified Chelsea defender, Marcos Alonso as a replacement for Gerard Pique ahead of the summer transfer.
Alonso, a Spanish international is a key player at Stamford Bridge after signing from Fiorentina in 2016.
He helped the club win the Premier League last season.
While Chelsea’s title defence ended in failure this term, Alonso has continued to impress, earning a place in the PFA Team of the Year.
Goal UK reports that his form has caught the attention of Barcelona, who are looking to bolster their defensive options in the summer.
Piqué will turn 32 on his next birthday and the Spanish giants reportedly see Alonso as a possible long-term replacement for the Catalan.
While Alonso has flourished as a wing-back at Chelsea, he has experience of playing at centre-back from his time at Fiorentina.
The 27-year-old was finally awarded an international cap for Spain earlier in the year and is in contention to be in the squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Alonso started his career at Real Madrid, spending almost a decade at their academy before being sold to Bolton Wanderers in 2010.
